The majority of UK homeowners aim to run an energy efficient home. After all, it can save you time, money and improve the environment. The government has started to focus on energy efficiency as well. Building Regulations now include set standards that all hot water and heating systems must meet. A hurting economy and ever-increasing prices adds further pressure. Now, more homeowners than ever are having trouble paying the bills.

The dramatic change in climate has increased the importance of attaining energy efficiency. As the number of natural disasters related to climate change increase, the number of concerned citizens also rises. Homeowners are often unsure what they can do. There are several easy changes to the home that can greatly improve its overall efficiency. Ensuring your home has high-efficiency heating and hot water systems is a good way to start. There are several options available to the concerned consumer.

High efficiency condensing technology is one option. When a homeowner is faced with the choice of either replacing or repairing their current system, they are often unsure what to do. If they are educated as to the pros and cons of their decision, the choice becomes much easier. Frequently, the homeowner depends on the installer for crucial decision-making advice. The installer is often the final factor in the process.

Frequently, the high cost of the boiler and its installation, persuade buyers to delay the purchase for a later date. This can prove highly problematic. Repairs can lengthen the life of an inefficient appliance but, it is still inefficient. A poor appliance will end up costing more in the long run. Repairs and the cost of running heavily outweigh the cost of buying a new more efficient boiler.

It is also important to think about the environmental impact your decision will make. UK homes produce 21% of all the carbon dioxide produced in the country. Heating and hot water systems are responsible for 80% of that figure. Efficiency cuts the cost of bills but it also helps the UK reach its goal of decreasing carbon emissions by 20% by the year 2010. Heating and hot water accounts for the majority of the typical fuel bill, if your boiler is over ten years old a replacement would be worth the high initial costs. High efficiency boilers can cut bills by 30% and the average family home can save about 200 yearly.

There are several UK manufacturers that sell heating and hot water systems in a variety of makes and models. Common features include cast aluminium-silicon heat exchanger, brass waterset, energy efficient pump, and a concealed system connection that greatly improve system performance. A centrally located telescopic flue kit with preformed connections and pre-fitted mains electrical lead results in fast and cheap installation. Drop-down controls and a spacious interior allows the appliance to be serviced with ease. RF, radio frequency, controller versions are also available. They provide the user with complete touch of a button control. Warranty agreements vary company by company but usually provide 10-year parts warranty on the heat exchanger and two-year parts and labour coverage on the entire system.
